Specifically, defecating would stimulate the vagus nerve which extends from the brain throughout the body, including the digestive tract. Experts therefore believe that stimulating this nerve causes some sort of strange sensation in cats. The latter then expresses it by running everywhere.
As Amy Shojai, a certified animal behavior consultant in Texas, explains, “The nerve has multiple functions, such as reducing inflammation and also impacting feelings of stress, anxiety, and fear.”
Instinct also encourages cats to move away from their litter box
The second reason for cat pooping is its survival instinct. In the wild, wild cats always stay away from their stools, the smell of which can attract potential predators.
“ We know that cats have a very keen sense of smell, so what may be a mild aroma to us could be very offensive to the cat », specifies Amy Shojai.
These crazy moments can correspond to a feeling of discomfort
Cat pooping can also be due to a small health problem. The feline could actually run away from the litter box as soon as it is finished if it feels pain when defecating.
This painful or uncomfortable feeling could be explained by constipation, for example. The cat then risks identifying the litter box with this feeling of discomfort. He would therefore like to flee as quickly as possible as soon as he has finished his needs.
It is of course recommended to contact your veterinarian if the cat shows signs of constipation or if it has not defecated for more than three days.
