In the solar system, to our knowledge, there are only two celestial bodies on which we can find liquid on its surface. The first is the earth, the second is Titan, the largest moon of Saturn. If on earth, the main liquid element that is found is water, on the moon of the planet with the rings, it is liquid methane that can be observed.
A slowdown in the study of Titan's past
Imagine. You take for an operating model that you have been able to study on earth and you consider that the latter can be observed and studied at the other end of the solar system if the basic conditions are met so that it can be.
Then you go to observation and … surprise! What you thought to be true on Earth is not necessarily on Titan.
On earth, when large rivers or rivers join the largest stretches of water such as seas, formations, called Delta, are created. More or less large regions in which we can find many sediments which are markers of the past, more or less distant, of our planet.
On Titan, there are great rivers and rivers as well as seas, but surprisingly and contrary to what scientists expected, there are no deltas.

And this absence of deltas on Titan has a much more disabling consequence than the disappointment felt by scientists who expected to find them. Indeed, if the deltas are interesting training, it is for the sediments that we find there.
Without these deltas, it becomes more difficult to clarify the vagueness that it exists around the past of Titan, its climate and its plates tectonics.
His in -depth study will therefore have to wait a little more. Perhaps this discovery will also make us change our eyes as to the search for extraterrestrial life which may not have developed in the same way as on earth.
A moon from Saturn filled with mysteries
Beyond the absence of deltas observed on Titan, scientists were surprised by other characteristics of Saturn's largest moon. Indeed, unexplained and inexplicable formations were observed in particular below the surface of the natural satellite of the planet with the rings.
Thus, at the bottom of methane seas and lakes, scientists noticed the presence of deep pits, but also channels, navigable passages that are found on earth, without having the slightest idea of how they could get there.
There is no doubt that future Titan studies will be implemented to unravel all the mysteries that we have to clarify. At least, if we manage to detach ourselves a little from what we know and take for granted.
