In front of the BYD stand at the 2024 Paris Motor Show, a car sits alone on its rotating display. THK LSR-05, this is the name of this Japanese-designed electric SUV. Already presented a year ago at Japan Mobility Show 2023 in Tokyo, he made a notable appearance in Paris.
However, if it attracts attention and curious people, the LSR-05 is a car that is paradoxically not intended to be driven.
LSR-05, a car that doesn't exist
For the curious who would be seduced by the neat and very luxurious design of the THK LSR-05 and who would seek to obtain it, this will not be possible.
Indeed, although it will be presented at the Paris Motor Show among other cars which may be available for sale, the Japanese model is there for a completely different objective. If Tesla, BYD, XPENG, Renault, Peugeot and many others highlight their know-how in automobile manufacturing, THK especially highlights its know-how in the manufacturing of certain automobile parts.
Thus, the car that is presented at the 2024 Paris Motor Show is only a prototype designed in partnership with the Japanese company SN Design Platform, specialized in the design of concept cars. In other words, THK's LSR-05 does not exist.
Technical know-how
So no one will ever be able to get this car. However, it is not individuals that THK wants to address, but rather the manufacturers themselves.
By highlighting certain parts installed on the electric SUV, the Japanese brand wants to demonstrate its expertise in the manufacturing of certain key parts in a vehicle.
Thus, in the LSR-05, THK wants to emphasize a seat sliding system on an invisible rail, suspensions, shock absorber tubes, wheel motors, electric brakes and finally a power system without contact placed under the vehicle.
Enough to allow the most prominent manufacturers or those seeking to be seen to shop and integrate parts into their vehicles.
Mondial de l'Auto, the paradise of concept cars
Like the THK LSR-05 which is not a car, but a showcase of equipment, other vehicles do not aim to be put on sale one day. No, quite the contrary. On the other hand, concept cars are there to demonstrate capable innovations from manufacturers.
A square steering wheel, no steering wheel at all, spherical wheels… everyone is designing it in order to highlight their know-how in research and development. Nothing says that one day, certain mass-produced vehicles will incorporate all or part of the innovations implemented in the concept cars, but for those currently presented, none will be able to be put on sale.
Until October 20, 2024, you will be able to admire, in a non-exhaustive way:
- THK's LSR-05
- The New Class of BMW
- Peugeot's Vision
- Alpine's A390_ß
