A breathtaking photo of the moon has ignited social networks in recent days. Photographer Tony Harnett is at the origin of this image “unique in its kind”.
Wales' roof in front of the moon
At 1,085 meters above sea level, this mountain is the highest point of the Snowdon massif. Mountaineers and amateurs of the great outdoors flock to it every year to reach the summit.
They thus take advantage of a breathtaking panorama of Eryri National Park (Snowdonia) as well as a magnificent view of the moon in the middle of the night. The photo of Tony Harnett thus shows a group of people at the top of Yr Wyddfa.
The moon in the background appears giant and majestic. Tony Harnett has actually managed to bring the moon and the highest peak in Wales in the same cliché, which gives this extraordinary rendering.
Five years of patience and observation to obtain the perfect photo
Such a shot is obviously not easy to obtain. The photographer first observed the premises in order to identify the ideal point of view. As he explains, he has tried to capture this image several times in the past five years.
However, it was the first time that he has been able to obtain such a result. As he says, “many variables” had to be gathered. You should not only find the right location compared to the summit and the moon, but also have the ideal weather conditions.
And on this point, photographers unfortunately have no catch. It is therefore necessary to be patient to have the ideal conditions and the perfect location. Tony Harnett has also used a mobile application which makes it easier to identify the right places and the best moments to make pretty pictures.
A photographer passionate about Wales and more specifically Eryri National Park
The photographer therefore settled near the picturesque lakes of Llynnau Mymbyr about ten kilometers from Yr Wyddfa. He waited throughout the night from Friday to Saturday.
“I am in Angels. Some photos require more patience and perseverance than others, ”he says. He had been trying to have this shot for several years.
In addition to being passionate about astronomical photos, Tony Harnett also spends a lot of time in Eryri National Park. He walks the northwest of Wales on board his motorhome. He even launched a website, Gems of Snowdonia, to share the beauty of the National Park with Internet users.
