When he entered service, he should then become the largest commercial plane in the world.
Boeing 777-9, the first tests carried out
It is in a press release as well as in a video posted on social networks that Boeing announced that it had started the tests in certification flight of the Boeing 777-9, the future long-haul of the aerospace firm.

Translation : “The 777-9 started the certification flight tests at the Boeing Field in Seattle, an important step while we are working under the supervision of our regulator to certify the plane and deliver it to our customers all over the world.»
It is under the eye of the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration), responsible for issuing the necessary certifications for the plane to be well approved as being reliable to transport passengers, that the flight has happened.
However, in 2020, in April and May, the first test flights of 777X models were already made in Seattle. Many delays have since been stored. Thus, if the first flight tests of certifications were conclusive, there is little chance of seeing the future largest commercial planes in the world arrive on international tarmacs before the first quarter of 2025 according to the estimates reported by the media Aerotime.
The dimensions of the 777-9
A worthy successor to the legendary Boeing 747, the 777-9 had to be more imposing than his illustrious predecessor. Here is a comparison of the dimensions between the two devices:
Boeing 777-9:
- 76.72 meters long
- 71.75 meters in flight and 64.85 meters on the ground
- 19 meters high
- capacity of 426 passengers
Boeing 747-8:
- 76.3 meters long
- 68.4 meters wide
- 19.4 meters high
- capacity of 467 passengers
But if the competition is fierce between Boeing devices, the 777-9 will also have to rub the A380 of Airbus whose characteristics are:
- 72.73 meters long
- 79.80 meters wide
- 24.10 meters high
- Reception capacity of more than 500 passengers
Thus, even if it is about to delight the trophy of the longest plane in the world at 747-8, the Boeing 777-9 is neither the widest nor the highest commercial plane ever built. However, with regard to one of these characteristics it will be the first device of civil aviation to have it.
A pile with retractable wings
Indeed, the Boeing 777-9 can adjust its scale. This is two importance. The first, in flight, the higher the scale, the more the lift is improved and the lower the fuel consumption.
The second, he can move more easily to the tarmacs when he has to park or go to the track. If this technology was above all used by military devices, especially on aircraft doors, it will enter civil and commercial aviation, as Capital specified in January 2023.
This means that the Boeing 777-9 will be able to save money and places to the companies who wish to acquire it. To date, as BFM reveals, nearly 530 orders have already been placed with the aerospace firm. The first deliveries, as specified above, are scheduled for the first quarter of 2025.
