The novel was fully adapted in the first season of the series
Shōgun plunges viewers into Japan from the beginning of the 17th century. An English browser stranded on the Japanese coasts is involved in political intrigue. He quickly became the protégé of a local lord who aspires to become Shogun, the country's military leader.
This immersion in the Japanese feudal period is marked by conflicts of power and complex alliances. The quality of the writing of the series combined with the incredible performances of the performers have largely contributed to the success of the series.
It is based on the eponymous novel by James Clavell, published in 1975. A first television adaptation had already emerged in 1980 on the American channel NBC. The new 2024 series has fully adapted the novel in the 10 episodes.
Showrunners already have the final of the Shōgun series
This is the reason why Shōgun was initially announced as a mini-series of 10 episodes. However, she met with enormous success and received numerous awards such as the “best dramatic television series” at the Primetime Emmy Awards 2024 and the Golden Globes 2025.
To the delight of fans, the Rachel Kondo and Justin Marks' showrunners have announced that season 2 is indeed in preparation. They gave news.
“We have finished with the writing of the ten episodes and we now have our final. This allows us to start understanding how we are going to film this. But we are very excited by the plan. I hope people will be surprised by some of the big ideas from the first episode of the second season, ”they announce.
Shōgun season 2 will probably be released next year … or the next
At the same time, they confirmed at the same time that the next 10 episodes are already written. For those who have already watched the first season, the showrunners have also teased that they are “really excited, especially for Hiroyuki Sanada”.
This is not the only good news. The FX channel has decided to renew Shōgun for two additional seasons. A third season will therefore also see the light of day. It is of course still too early to have an official date from the release of season 2.
Shōgun will probably return to small screen in 2026, or even in 2027. Fans will therefore have to be patient.
