The ascent of the 3D printer construction
Lately, 3D printing is talked about. It must be said that this method makes it possible to build a house in just a few days, thanks to a giant 3D printer which will create a structure by superimposing several layers of materials such as special concrete, a mixture of composite or even biosourced or recycled materials.
This is particularly the case with Crest Robotics and Earthbuilt Technology, two Australian start-ups specializing in engineering that has developed a new robot called Charlotte which looks like a spider.
A robot capable of building a 200 m² house in a day
The latter was presented as being able to achieve what no previous model has been able to do: build a house with an area of 200 m² in just one day, which is equivalent to the speed of a hundred masons, according to New Atlas.
To do this, Earthbuilt Technology has developed “An extrusion system capable of collecting easily available materials, such as sand, earth and waste such as crushed bricks, which will then be linked by a fabric and tablets to form the layers of a building “, As specified on the Crest Robotics site.
This system will allow the robot to superimpose successive layers of this compressed building material, independently. He will be able to move around up on his spiders, explains the English -speaking media.
A robot designed for the earth … but also the moon
Start-ups explain that Charlotte's objective will be to build affordable and durable houses on a large scale, especially with production with a low carbon emission, in a very short period of time. In addition, they explain that their construction robot could make it possible to resolve the shortage of housing, in particular caused by construction slowdowns.
But the manufacturers do not intend to stop at terrestrial use. Indeed, they aim to send their robot to the moon, to build several lunar bases, “Essential to continue lunar exploration and research in distant space”, Can we read on their site.
Its light, versatile bio-inspired design and its autonomous operating capacities make it a promising and more than credible option to travel on the moon. If a reduced prototype was presented during a recent exhibition, the Charlotte robot is still in development, and should be available in a few years.
