Each year, the 2025 environmental photography prize is organized by the Prince Albert II Foundation of Monaco. This photo competition highlights the environmental issues that we face.
36 selected shots, 7 awarded by the famous photo competition
In total, 36 photographs were selected for the 2025 edition. 7 of them were rewarded. The prestigious competition is divided into 5 categories: sea worlds, polar wonders, at the heart of the forest, humanity versus nature and actors of change, carrying hope.
The first prize in the competition was awarded to the photo ” Unseen Unsung Heroes »Captured by the Spanish photographer Angel Fitor. She also won the category ” Marine worlds ». We see marine worms rejecting sand outside their burrow.

Although this is not necessarily seen, this photograph required 2 months of work and 20 dives of 5 hours each. As Angel Fitor says, ” This photograph describes the silent action of humble creatures which, however, exerts a decisive influence on the whole of the Mediterranean marine ecosystem ».
A baby Turtle Caouanne, a lion's mane jellyfish and kite lucans are among the competition winners
Angel Fitor also won the category ” Change actors, bearers of hope ». It is a touching photo of a baby Turtle Caouanne (Caretta Caretta) in a care center in Spain. Entitled ” Training day », This photo shows a young sea turtle that learns to eat its first jellyfish in the hope that it survives once released at sea.

Then the category ” Polar wonders “Was won by Galice Hoarau with his photo” Jellyfish and Iceberg ». The contrast between blue water, white ice and the bright colors of the lion's mane mevus (Cyanea Capillata) offers a magnificent spectacle.

First place in the category ” In the heart of the forest “Was attributed to the photo of Iacopo Nerozzi called” Clash of Kings ». We see two male kite lucans (Lucanus Céruse) in the middle of a duel for a female. Besides, the photographer observed them for ten days before being able to capture the perfect moment.

The poignant photo of a tigress exploited for 20 years
As for the category ” Humanity versus nature “, The photo” Breeding Machine »Taken by Amy Jones had the first prize. It is a moving image that testifies to the consequences of trade in wild animals.

Hungry and exhausted, an old Indochina tigress (Panthera Tigris Corbetti) relies on a wall in Thailand. She remained locked up for 20 years in a cage, ” Giving birth to small intended for different industries, ranging from the tourist exploitation of tigers to the illegal trade of skins, teeth, bone, claws and meat ».
A local NGO finally managed to transfer this tigress to a forest sanctuary dedicated to tigers. The big feline was nevertheless died 9 months after being rescued.
Two special prizes to close the environmental photography competition
Finally, the competition of the Prince Albert II Foundation of Monaco has awarded two additional prizes. There is the ” Public price “And the” High school prices ».
The first was awarded to Fernando Faciole with his photo ” After the Flames, Hope ». It was a young Tapir who was saved from a fire in Brazil. He then rests up walking with his legs covered with bandages.

The last prize was won by the photo of a Sumatra tiger in Indonesia that you can see at the start of this article. Entitled ” Forest Guard », The image was photographed by Bambang Wirawan. It is the spectacular portrait of a wild tiger seen through the bloody rib cage of its prey.
