Here is a riddle to test your logical, analytical and deductive skills! In a most difficult situation, four men are buried up to their necks. Their salvation depends on a clever mathematical puzzle involving black and white hats. Can you find the answer in less than ten minutes to save them?
The situation:
Above are 4 male prisoners, named A, B, C and D. Buried in the ground up to their necks, it is impossible for the four to move. They can, therefore, only see the prisoner in front of them.

The puzzle challenges
Between prisoner A and prisoner B there is a brick wall, through which they cannot see each other.
Two of these prisoners have black hats, while the other two have white ones. However, the challenge is this: each of them is unable to see the color of their own hat, although they can see everyone else's.
The question
In order to prevent you and your fellow prisoners from being shot, one of you must shout to the executioner the color of your hat. Which of these men should call the executioner to avoid a tragic outcome? Attention ! If you give a wrong answer, there is not a second opportunity: you will all be shot for lack of the correct answer. So think carefully. You have ten minutes!
Question 1: After ten minutes, who calls the executioner?
Question 2: Why is he 100% sure of the color of his hat?
The solution to the prisoners' riddle
After a few minutes of anguish, the silence of the man called “D” becomes the key to saving all the protagonists. Understanding that “D” did not react despite a mixed view of black and white hats in front of him, the prisoner named “C” deduces that he must be wearing a black hat. Indeed, if he had seen two hats of the same color, he would have immediately understood the color of his own. So, “C” shouts to the executioner that his hat is black, thus saving everyone’s lives!
The importance of exercising the brain with puzzles
Riddles are not just fun, they are also powerful tools to develop our intelligence and our ability to think creatively. By integrating them into our daily lives, we stimulate our critical thinking and our ability to reason, as well as our analytical and logical skills.
