China Plans to Build a Nuclear Power Plant on Its Lunar Base

It is no longer a secret, the United States and NASA, even if it remains undisputed leaders in the space field, are beginning to see their head start to be, little by little, shortened by China. Indeed, in the race to the moon, China is now one of the big names to have in mind.

China's well -established planning

It is not since today that China has been in mind to become a major player in space, especially to turn into rival of NASA and the United States. No, it has now been a few years since the Empire in the middle is showing the world its know-how in the matter.

And to illustrate this, just evoke Exchangethe lunar program of China. He notably became known in recent years thanks to the various missions which have seen lunar probes landing on the hidden side of the moon and to come back, real technical and scientific exploits.

And it is not ready to stop since the program Exchange At least stretches until 2028 with 2030 the desire to lay the first Chinese on the moon. But even further, with the help of Russia, China also aims to build a base to ensure that the selene star is continuously inhabited.

A nuclear power plant on the moon

And for the moon to be continuously inhabited, it will be necessary to ensure that its inhabitants can benefit from a certain comfort on the spot at some 380,000 kilometers of the earth.

To do this, on April 23, 2025, the CNSA announced that the future Ilrs, whose bases should see the light of day by 2035, will be supplied by a nuclear power plant. An announcement that seems to take over from that of Russia a year ago which explained wanting to install a nuclear reactor on the moon.

In total, the ILRS will be an ambitious project that will count China and Russia as leaders and will see around fifty other countries, 500 scientific institutions and nearly 5,000 researchers join them.

It remains to be seen what a lunar nuclear power plant will look like.
