Can Bee Products Help Extend Our Lifespan?

An English government organization will carry its research on the queens of bees to allow to live longer and have a longer fertility period.

For example, they have developed skin care products, aimed at fighting infections and parasites, using extracts from slug and snails mucus, which have the distinction of having antibacterial and antifungal properties. Recently, American researchers will soon concentrate their research on the queens of bees, who turn out to have characteristics that can be useful to humans.

The queens of bees live longer than the others

Indeed, the Advanced Research + Invention Agency (ARIA), an English government body, announced soon launching a program which aims to study the queens of bees, in particular to prolong the human life and prolong years of fertility. Indeed, while the latter have an DNA almost identical to the workers, as pointed out The Guardianthey have the distinction of being fertile all their lives and survive years, when workers live only a few months.

“If we are able to disentangle and reconstruct the way in which nature has resolved these challenges for them, this can be transformer to break aging, human fertility, transport of organs and provide new ways to fight against disease”, said Yannick Wurm, one of the eight program directors announced by Aria.

The other Aria's projects

In addition to this work on the queens of bees, which could be revolutionary, the government organization has announced other projects in parallel. Indeed, the English -speaking media informs us that a program aimed at replacing plastics with programmable materials inspired by nature will also be set up.

“It's really time to rethink the way we make all the materials, not just plastic”said Ivan Jayapurna, a researcher participating in the project. Finding ways to manipulate the innate immune system, or even exploit the energy of the atmosphere to allow a potentially unlimited flight, are also projects implemented by ARIA.
