On the roads of the future, assisted driving is no longer a luxury reserved for high -end models. In China, this change takes place at high speed, carried by fierce competition and constant technological innovation. At the heart of this dynamic, Byd is a pioneer by generalizing its new “God's Eye” system for free on its entire range, including the most accessible models. A daring strategy that upsets the codes of the sector and places the Chinese manufacturer in direct rival of Tesla, whose comparable functionalities remain paying.
Byd is focusing on assisted driving to stand out from Tesla
The Chinese manufacturer byd, a sales leader of electric vehicles in China, recently announced the general integration of its new assisted driving system, “God's Eye”, on the whole range. This internal technology, will now be available for an additional cost, including on economic models such as Byd Seagull, sold in China from 69,800 yuan, or around 9,200 euros.
This decision is part of an opening strategy, making driving assisted more accessible. This system, formerly reserved for high -end vehicles, is gradually democratizing. Wang Chuanfu, president of Byd, compares its importance to that of safety belt or airbags. He claims, according to Xataka, that making these technologies accessible marks a major advance for the automotive market.
The announcement had an immediate impact on the financial markets. The BYD action, listed in Hong Kong, jumped 21% in the space of five days, carried by the enthusiasm of investors in the face of this technological and commercial advance.
By making the driving standard assisted on its vehicles, Byd is positioned head-on against Tesla, which still charges these features via subscriptions, in particular with its Full Self-Driving system (FSD).
“God's eye”, an advanced and efficient technological system
The “God's Eye” system is based on a complex technological architecture and is available in three distinct versions. The entry -level model, “God's Eye C”, relies on 12 cameras, 5 millimeter wave radars and 12 ultrasonic sensors. This configuration offers a 360 -degree peripheral perception, with an accuracy of one centimeter. This system teams in particular by BYD Seagull and other affordable models, without additional cost for consumers.
The intermediate version, “God's Eye B”, incorporates a Lidar to improve detection capacities and will mainly be deployed on vehicles of the Premium Denza brand. As for the “God's Eye A” system, the most advanced, it is intended for the high -end models of the Yangwang brand and includes three Lidar sensors as well as a calculation power of 600 tops, provided by the Dipilot 600 architecture.
In parallel, Byd claims an intensive training of its algorithms thanks to its cloud database, the largest in China depending on the company.
In 2024, the byd fleet recorded 72 million kilometers of driving assisted by day, thus supplying the algorithms of “God's eye”. This mass of data makes it possible to optimize autonomy capacities and improve the accuracy of functionality, such as remote parking or assisted navigation on highway and urban areas.
Increased technological competition on the Chinese market
The launch of “God's Eye” is involved in a context of intense competition on the Chinese assisted driving market. Tesla, who always tries to obtain authorization to activate her FSD software in China, is seen here directly challenged by Byd. The American manufacturer is mainly based on cameras for its system, unlike Byd which combines cameras, radars and Lidar, following an approach similar to that adopted by Waymo.
The integration of Deepseek technology into ByD software architecture represents a strategic advance. This model of artificial intelligence, developed by a Chinese start-up, is designed to improve environmental analysis capacities in real time. According to official statements relayed by Cleantechnica, the “God's Eye B” and “God's Eye” systems already allow level 3 driving on the highway and in urban areas, with the ambition to reach a level 4 in the years to come . Level 3 allows autonomous driving under supervision, while level 4 allows driving without intervention in certain areas.
This technological offensive is accompanied by a desire to optimize costs and to attract a wider audience. In China, consumers show a strong interest in on -board technologies, despite the reluctance observed in other markets. A survey carried out by EY in 2024 and cited by the Financial Times, reveals that only 39% of Chinese owners of electric vehicles consider the cost of these features as an obstacle, against 45% in Europe and 47% in the United States.
With “God's Eye”, byd is not only looking to sell more vehicles, but aims to become a major player in assisted driving, based on advanced technologies and an aggressive tariff policy. Tesla, which is partly based on the sale of software and subscriptions, will now have to deal with this new model.
