Bank Alert: Beware of Fraudulent SMS Requesting Activation of a “New Digital Key”

IT pirates redouble their efforts to trap their victims. This time, they use the technique of phishing (or phishing) to steal personal information. A new wave of fraudulent sms targets BNP Paribas customers more particularly.

Since the beginning of 2025, bank customers have been receiving messages that have encouraged them to “activate” a “new digital key”. They would only have 24 hours to do it, which aims to create a feeling of emergency. It is a well -known pressure technique that encourages victims to act impulsively without taking the time to think about it.

The right reflexes to adopt in case of fraudulent sms

The trap closes when the victims click on the link contained in the SMS. It redirects to a website that looks like the real bank connection interface. The cybercriminals then fly the connection identifiers and the bank codes with which the victims tried to connect.

So how do you react in case of fraudulent sms? The first thing to do is obviously never clicking on the links of these SMS. Nor should you communicate your personal information and bank details.

Make sure you always access your customer area from the BNP Paribas website or the official bank application. In addition, you can report suspicious SMS by transferring them to 33,700. It is the anti-spam platform for mobile operators.

How have you already clicked on a phishing link from an SMS?

If it is too late and you've already fallen into the hackers trap, you must immediately contact your bank to oppose. Also report all suspicious activities that could have been done on your account.

Then change your password and activate authentication with two factors if it was not already. Finally, report this scam on phishing-initiative.fr or signal-spam.fr to help the fight against phishing.

Ready -to -use phishing kits are illegally sold online

Even if various prevention and protection measures are already in place, experts still note growth in the phishing industry. According to Hornetsecurity, a world leader in cybersecurity, scama (phlinging kits ready for employment) are illegally sold online.

Cybercriminals can easily usurp the identity of banks, but also other popular services like La Poste or Netflix. In addition to corrupt employees who can facilitate data theft, hackers also have modified routers at their disposal that send phishing SMS thanks to several SIM cards.

Mobile boots, that is to say networks of compromised mobile devices which can be controlled remotely by cybercriminals also serve as relays to fraudulent messages.

Phishing cost more than 1.2 billion euros in France in 2024

It is more than ever to redouble a vigilance in the face of phishing techniques constantly evolving. IT pirates compete in ingenuity to trap more and more victims.

In France, phishing is a real financial scourge. In 2024 alone, losses linked to online fraud exceeded 1.2 billion euros. Companies whose identity is usurped and consumers must all participate in the fight against phishing.
