After 730 Days of Constant Hiccups, Man Hospitalized as Doctors Uncover Rare Chronic Illness

This 93 -year -old Lebanese, was hospitalized because these symptoms began to worsen: he suffered from incessant hiccups and intense fatigue.

If he did not have it throughout his life, a 93 -year -old man, of Lebanese nationality, suffered it for no less than 730 days. This is at least what the journal Journal of Medical Case Reports reports, in a study published on March 6. The patient had come to consult for a “hiccups”.

It is caused by the accumulation of eosinophiles in the esophagus. It is a kind of allergic reaction to delay, which differs from conventional reactions.

“” “EOE diagnosis can be difficult and often delayed ”, explains the study. According to the researchers, the EOE can affect people of all ages, but with a predominance for young adults, children and especially white men.

The effects of a long -term hiccup

Even if you suffer from such a disease, it is unlikely that you contract prolonged hiccups. “” “The EOE presenting with the hiccups was only reported in two cases, the first in a 24 -year -old woman with a history of hiccups and dyspepsia for 3 years and the second in a 7 -year -old boy with long -standing symptoms of throat scraping, excessive night cough and hiccups, ” explain the researchers.

According to an article published by the Canadian Cancer Society (SCC), a persistent or chronic hiccup can have negative effects on your daily life, because it can largely interfere on your sleep but also on your ability to drink, speak and eat. It is also very likely that it affects your mood …
