A Study Uncovers the Hidden Environmental Effects of Abandoned Racing Trucks in Nature

In France or elsewhere, it is not uncommon to see trucks of abandoned races surrounded by nature. Beyond becoming a waste left behind, a study carried out in the United Kingdom reveals that these objects have an important environmental impact that it is nevertheless simple to mitigate.

Sustainability A little earlier in the year 2025. And this particularly high number is accompanied by a very important environmental impact which is however easily preventable.

And you could say that these are only carts and that their impact is in itself minimal. Except not. Indeed, these carts are not intended to stay there. You have to bring them back to the supermarket.

And this is where the study conducted by researchers from theUniversity of Warwick Simply shows us that the abandonment of these objects polluted in a especially indirect way. To recover these 520,000 abandoned carts, vans are used. The latter, in the example given by researchers, operate on diesel.

Thus, with the use of this fuel, when it is devoted solely to bringing carts, the researchers calculated that carbon dioxide emissions (CO2), one of the main greenhouse gases, amounted to 343 tonnes.

Always to make it a little more concrete, we can read in the study that it is equivalent to the year to the programs produced by 80 petrol cars. If we add to that the fact that certain carts are too damaged to be repaired or renovated, and that we know that we emits about 65.14 kg of CO2 to build a single cart, the environmental impact of these abandonments is ultimately massive.

How to limit this environmental impact?

The question has a fairly obvious answer. Avoid abandoning carts. We know that it may seem crazy, but it is ultimately the simplest solution to set up.

Afterwards, it is true that it is harder to apply since the abandonment of carts is not just a British problem, but international.

So what do we do?

Well, in the same way that we try to make people understand that the reconditioned technological devices have a lower environmental impact than the new, repaired or renovated carts are responsible for much less emissions.

And this solution was envisaged by researchers who estimated that such methods could reduce the environmental cost from 92 to 99% compared to that of a new cart.

But if we remove the environmental side of the thing, abandoned carts can represent shorter dangers. Indeed, if they are left on the side of the road, it is not enough for much so that it starts to drift on the roadway which can therefore lead to accidents.
